New layer: Ocean infrastructure and gas pipelines

What sits on the seabed matters as much as what swims above it. We've added a new map layer in Catchwise that shows offshore infrastructure — platforms, subsea wells, and gas pipelines — so you can see what's down there before you set gear or plan a steam.

What's in the layer

  • Gas pipelines – Subsea pipeline routes drawn directly on the chart.
  • Platforms and wells – Offshore installations, including subsea templates and wellheads, with names attached.
  • Click for details – Tap any feature to see what it is and any metadata we have on it.

Why it's useful

Skippers working grounds near the offshore industry already know the cost of getting this wrong — snagged gear, lost trawls, hours spent steaming around. But it cuts the other way too: some fisheries actively work along the pipelines, where structure concentrates fish. Either way, you need to know where the infrastructure is before you set, and seeing it on the same map as your tracks, weather, and conditions gives you the full picture in one place.
