Founded by Ludvig A. Løddesøl, Tomas Roaldsnes, Jonas Dammen, Kristian Andersen Hole, and Åsmund Brekke after winning the FishAI: Sustainable Commercial Fishing competition in 2022, Catchwise combines deep AI expertise with practical industry experience. Since its founding in 2023 and operational launch in March 2024, Catchwise is headquartered in Oslo, with temporary offices in Ålesund and a presence across Norwegian coastal cities.
Currently, Catchwise is used by over 50 larger vessels daily. This funding round will further strengthen Catchwise's product-market fit and accelerate development of its AI and data platform tailored for maritime operations.
Fishing vessels provide one of the greenest animal proteins available, yet operate under challenging oceanic conditions—often spending weeks at sea and consuming thousands of liters of fuel daily. Traditionally, cutting fuel usage required costly hardware upgrades offering incremental improvements. Catchwise changes this.
By combining SAT-AIS (satellite ship tracking) data, 20 years of fisheries data, and extensive ocean measurements—like temperature and salinity—Catchwise delivers actionable insights directly to fishing captains. Its integrated solution featuring real-time visualization, predictive analytics, and operational automation promises to significantly reduce vessel search times, potentially cutting fuel usage by up to 50%.
"Before Catchwise, I spent a lot of time jumping between different data sources; now I have everything in one place."
— Jón Poulsen, First Mate, Ishavet (Bluewild)
"The predictions were accurate when we arrived at the fishing grounds and even indicated the expected catch."
— Ove Brennskag, Captain, Gadus Njord (Lerøy Havfisk)
"The Catchwise team combines exceptional industry knowledge with deep expertise in data and AI. They’re addressing some of the most critical challenges in commercial fishing and have already demonstrated increased catch efficiency, reduced costs, and significantly lower environmental impact."
— Daniel Mariussen, Dreamcraft Ventures
"Catchwise is exactly the kind of team we love partnering with. Their ambition to transform the entire fishing industry by making it fully data-driven and sustainable aligns perfectly with our mission."
— Henrik Hatlebrekke, Sondo
Catchwise transforms the fishing industry by combining modern web technology, advanced AI, and comprehensive ocean data. Founded in 2023 and fully operational since March 2024, Catchwise has headquarters in Oslo, temporary offices in Ålesund, and regularly engages fishing communities along the coast. By helping fisheries optimize routes and operations, Catchwise significantly reduces search time, fuel consumption, and carbon emissions—directly contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals for life underwater and climate action.
Dreamcraft Ventures, based in Copenhagen, invests in pre-seed and seed-stage B2B software startups in the Nordics and Europe. Portfolio includes Telescope, AirHelp, Hakio, and B2B-focused innovators.
