Marine Guardian Project

About Marine Guardian

Marine Guardian is a four-year project funded by the EU's Horizon Europe program. It runs from June 2025 to May 2029 and brings together partners from across Europe to make fishing more sustainable. The project will create new technologies, guidelines, and planning tools that help protect ocean life while supporting the fishing industry.

Why this matters to us

Fishing is getting more complex every year — tighter regulations, shifting stocks, higher fuel costs. Our view is simple: the answer isn’t more guesswork, it’s better tools. This collaboration lets us bring proven decision support to more skippers, and push the bar on sustainability without slowing the work out at sea.

What We're Doing Together

Fishermen provide a vital service, harvesting food while navigating increasingly complex marine regulations and challenges.

Catchwise will contribute our map and AI technology so crews can:

  • Find the best places to fish while avoiding sensitive areas
  • Reduce fuel use and lower their carbon footprint
  • Catch the right fish and avoid unwanted catch

We’ll work hands-on with experienced skippers and research partners to test at sea, learn quickly, and ship improvements that matter in real operations.
