INFINIFISH Project

About INFINIFISH

INFINIFISH is a four-year project funded by the EU's Horizon Europe program, running from 2025 to 2029. The project brings together partners from across Europe to develop and validate technological solutions for the entire fisheries value chain — from reducing fuel consumption and seabed disturbance to optimizing catches and increasing resource efficiency.

Building Decision Support for Smarter Fishing

Climate change is reshaping where and when fish are found. Fuel costs keep rising. Regulations get tighter. Fishermen need better tools, not just more data. That's where we come in.

Catchwise is developing a decision support system for fisheries forecasting that helps crews fish smarter — predicting where the best catches are, reducing wasted fuel, and adapting to changing ocean conditions in real time.

What We're Doing

Catchwise will be working on developing decision support systems for large commercial fishing vessels. This isn't just a lab experiment — it's a real-world deployment where we'll:

  • Test our AI-powered forecasting tools with experienced skippers at sea
  • Compare performance between vessels using our technology and control groups
  • Continuously improve our prediction models based on real operational feedback
  • Feed insights back into the research to refine algorithms that matter

This development–deployment–testing loop will run throughout the project, ensuring that what we build actually works when it counts.

Why This Matters

Fishermen provide an essential service, harvesting sustainable protein to feed communities around the world. At the same time, they face mounting challenges — climate change shifting fish stocks, rising fuel costs, and increasingly complex regulations.

Better forecasting tools mean less time searching, less fuel burned, and more productive operations. This helps fishermen remain competitive and profitable while reducing their environmental footprint. It's about supporting an industry that's vital to coastal economies and food security, while ensuring it can thrive for generations to come.

By partnering with leading research institutions like SINTEF and testing our tools in real operations, we're making sure the technology we build is practical, reliable, and built to last.
