It’s tough to interpret legal texts written in lawyer-speak, and keep track of regulations across zones, gear types, and species.
We want to help. You can ask our AI chatbot (powered by ChatGPT) questions about J-notices and fisheries law, tailored to your vessel and fishery. It provides references so you can double-check the rules yourself.
This feature is currently in beta, but we’ve already received a lot of positive feedback. Got ideas for improvement or missing regulations? Let us know!
Catchwise pulls catch reports from the pelagic sales organization faster than anyone! You now get landings and catch reports from all sales associations – all in one place.
It’s easy to stay on top of catch reports and landings in Catchwise. Just click on the landings on the map to view the details.
Catchwise launched the fishing activity map earlier this year, and it quickly became popular. It detects fishing based on AIS and displays it as a heatmap. Now it’s even better!
You can now click on clusters of fishing activity to view registered landings and reports linked to that area. Tap the “27 vessels” bubble to explore further.
Wondering where the best fishing has been lately? Try the activity map!
We’ve upgraded our AIS coverage by integrating another provider! This means even better position update frequency in areas where we weren’t yet best-in-class. The upgrade applies to all AIS sources – base stations, roaming, and satellite.
There’s a lot to take in when you first start using Catchwise – it can be overwhelming for new users. That’s why we’ve grouped tools and map layers to make it easier to find what you need.
Here’s the new structure:
🌊 Fishing Conditions – data about marine conditions that impact fishing
· Forecasts (optimal fishing conditions)
· Temperature (surface and bottom)
· Plankton (calanus and phytoplankton)
· Upwelling (nutrient-carrying currents)
🎣 Fishing Activity – see where vessels are fishing
· Estimated activity last 30 days
· Historical (ERS)
· Landings and reports
⛅️ Marine Weather
· Wind maps
· Ocean currents
· Wave maps
· Ice maps
⚖️ Regulations – closures, boundaries and legal zones
· View closures and boundaries in the map
· AI assistant trained to answer questions about regulations
You may have noticed a lot more foreign and European vessels appearing in the map lately. That’s just the beginning – over the next few weeks, you’ll be able to see positions and tracks for over 400,000 fishing vessels worldwide! That’s almost every AIS-enabled fishing vessel on Earth – both large and small.
